Hazrat Sayyid Nafees Al-Hussaini

Hazrat Sayyid Nafees Al-Hussaini was born in village Gadiala, district Sialkot, on 11 March 1933. After elementary education Shah Sahib shifted to Lahore and studied Urdu and Persian languages at Oriental College Lahore.

His family name was “Sayyid Anwar Hussain” and “Nafees Raqam” was his pen name, as a calligrapher. He also got famous by the name “Nafees Shah Sahib”.

Hzarat Shah Sahib belonged to a very noble family of famous Sufi Saint of the subcontinent, Hazrat Khawaja Sayyid Muhammad Gesu-Daraz. Also the art of Islamic Calligraphy, specially that of Holy Quran, was the hallmark of this family. Hazrat Shah Sahib learnt this art from his father Sayyid Ashraf Ali, who was a renowned calligrapher of Holy Quran.

Hazrat Shah Sahib was a  Calligrapher, a Sufi Saint, a literary person and above all a beloved person with many qualities, which are hard to express in words. His life was so versatile and diverse that it is hard to summarize it here. Many people are working on the Life History of Hazrat and as soon as they will be finished, we will present it here also, Inshallah.

Although his books are available in print format, he showed keen interest in spreading the knowledge to masses, and hence the digitization took place at his khankah during his life. This website was created after his permission and desire and the purpose was to make his work accessible to a wider audience, free of cost. Hazrat Shah Sahib passed away on February 5th, 2008. This project started in the last year of His life and is now “A memoir of that great personality.”
